Throughout the year we provide training activities in schools across Italy and in other EU countries, thus fostering dialogue between students and migrants. Every year we bring the testimonies of survivors in schools and groups of students to Lampedusa – an island that is the symbol of migration in Italy.

We strongly believe that awareness-raising on migration issues is the first essential step towards a change in current EU policies.

Since 2014 our activities have involved more than 30,000 students from 150 schools in 20 EU countries.

Seeds of Lampedusa is the Comitato's itinerant activity that takes place throughout the year in Italian and European schools.

The aim of this project is to create opportunities for dialogue between students and migrants to disseminate first-hand knowledge on migration.

Started as an activity to spread the knowledge acquired by students who visited Lampedusa, today it also involves several schools that have not visited the island, but are interested in investigating thoroughly this topic.

Day of Remembrance and Reception

Since 2014, Comitato has brought to Lampedusa more than 800 students 20 EU countries to commemorate the Day of Remembrance and Reception.

The four-day event takes place on the island of Lampedusa to enhance knowledge and awareness of young generations on migration, global interdependence, human rights, cultural integration and reception.

The project specifically aims at:

  • Providing young EU students with structured non-formal education programmes by fostering their active participation in workshops, documentary screenings, seminars, meetings with migrants, activists and refugees
  • Building a European network of schools to play a more active role in the field of migration, reception of migrants and in the fight against discrimination

From 2015 to 2017 the project was funded by the Asylum, Migration and Integration fund (AMIF) under the name "Europe begins in Lampedusa".

In 2019, from 30 September to 3 October Comitato Tre Ottobre visited Lampedusa to celebrate the sixth anniversary of the Day of Remembrance and Reception with the project “P(r)onti per l’Accoglienza” (Ready for Reception), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, University and Research, Lampedusa and Linosa municipality, G. Marconi High School (Pesaro) and the support of Compagnia San Paolo.

The project was carried out in partnership with several organizations including Amnesty International, National Association of Civil Victims of War Onlus, Associazione Carta di Roma, the Jesuit Refugee Service, the Italian Relief Corps of the Order of Malta, Legambiente Lampedusa, Esther Ada, Doctors without Border (MSF), IOM, UndeRadio (Save the Children) and UNHCR.
